Bean Dip Ingredients

2 cans of refried beans
1/2 a diced onion
2/3 chopped fresh chillies
1/2 cup of grated cheese
a dash of tabasco

Method

Add all of the ingrediants to the crockpot or a slow cooker and bring up to a gentle heat. You might have to stir hard to ensure the beans break up and mix well with the other ingrediants. Cook over a very low heat for about 1 hour.

You can serve the spicy bean dip with pretty much anything you like; fresh bread, tacos, sliced vegetables such as carrots. The great thing about this recipe is it is so simple and can be both prepared and cooked well in advance of when you need it, leaving you free to concentrate on more complex recipes!

Once you’ve made this low fat hummus recipe you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner – it is so easy!

Ingredients

1 can of chickpeas
1 clove of garlic
1 tea spoon of tahini
Juice from half a lime
2 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil
1 fresh chili

Method

Open and drain the water from the tin of chickpeas. Pour the contents into a food processor along with the rest of the ingredients. Then simple process until a smoothish consistency is reached. It is best not to process too much otherwise you’ll end up with a smooth paste – a little texture is nice.

Tahini is made of lightly roasted sesame seeds and originates from the Middle East. It is now available in most supermarkets and is the secret ingrediant in hummus that brings all of the other flavours together so do make the effort to get some before trying this recipe.
